In Spite Of Market Challenges & Conditions We Are Finding Ways To Win & Keep Roofing Moving!

Picture

2020 and 2021 have been unprecedented in terms of the hits to the supply chain in nearly every industry. The roofing industry certainly did not escape the production troubles that have slowed industries down or in some cases brought them to a screeching halt. Fortunately with some creative thinking and strategy the industry has come up with some solutions to keep us reroofing homes and businesses.

How We Are Keeping The Reroof Industry Moving

In the past roofing manufacturers offered a large pallet of color options and many different types or styles of asphalt roofing shingles. For instance in the Malarkey Roofing product line you had the option of 4 types of shingles, Highlander, Vista, Legacy and Windsor. Each of those shingle styles has several colors to choose from. As raw materials and production issues began to pile up, manufacturers got farther and farther behind making it difficult to keep up with all of the variations of product offerings. It didn't take long for an industry wide shortage to begin to impact material availability in a significant way. This began to really take a toll on the reroof market in early 2021.

Thankfully quick thinking began to shift the approach and strategy of the manufacturers. After taking a look at the situation it was discovered that most of the materials sold where typically 3-4 primary colors. Several brands shifted strategy and began to only produce primary blacks, greys and in some cases browns. Essentially, instead of having a small amount of every color they began to fill stocking supply yards with larger amounts of the primary colors. While this has temporarily limited color options for homeowners it has helped ensure we have product on the ground to keep homes dry that need roof replacement.

Why You Should Move Quickly On Any Roofing Projects

Another key point for consumer awareness in the roofing industry is the steep price increases that have taken place this year. So far in 2021 we have incurred 4 price increases from our distribution and manufacture partners totaling about 30% on asphalt shingles and 40%+ on accessories. We are not confident that the increases are done for the year. a 10% increase on our already high material and job costs is a significant amount so we are encouraging anyone considering a new roof to move forward and get it replaced before the prices continue to go up. This is especially the case if you are considering a new metal roof. Sheet metal roofing is continuing to rise at a rapid rate and could potentially see another 30% increase by the end of 2021.

As a longstanding roofing contractor in the Puget Sound it is our responsibility to educate customers on what to expect in the current market. We hope that you found this information helpful and that we can help guide you to and informed decision for any upcoming reroof projects you may have in mind.
